On August 15, 2009, Tropical Storm Bill became the second named storm of the year. Early in the morning on August 17, an eye appeared on visible and infrared loops, and Bill strengthened into a hurricane. Hurricane Bill became the first hurricane of the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season.
