Hurricane Omar is the fifteenth tropical storm, seventh hurricane and fourth major hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season. This is the first time that the name Omar has been used for any tropical cyclone in the Atlantic. Omar became a tropical depression on October 13. It strengthened to a Tropical Storm the next day. It then rapidly intensified that afternoon and reached an intensity of 70 mph (110 km/h). Later that evening of October 14, Omar became a hurricane.
